Sveitsin UID / ALV-tarkistin
Check whether a Swiss business identification number (UID) is registered for VAT in Switzerland. Swiss VAT numbers use the CHE format with nine digits and a language suffix: MWST (German), TVA (French) or IVA (Italian), for example CHE-123.456.789 MWST.
Validate Swiss UID and MWST/TVA/IVA numbers
Use this free Switzerland UID validator to confirm whether a business is registered for Mehrwertsteuer (MWST), TVA or IVA. The Swiss identifier is the Unternehmens-Identifikationsnummer (UID), written as CHE-123.456.789 with an optional MWST, TVA or IVA suffix depending on language region.
The check uses the official Swiss UID Register (Bundesamt für Statistik / uid.admin.ch), not the EU VIES database. Switzerland and Liechtenstein share the CHE prefix; VAT registration is a separate flag on the UID. VIESAC stores validation timestamps, SOAP/XML evidence and certificate history for audit-ready compliance.
Frequently asked questions about Swiss UID validation
What is a Swiss UID / MWST number?
The UID (Unternehmens-Identifikationsnummer) is Switzerland's business ID (CHE-123.456.789). When registered for VAT, it is shown with MWST (German), TVA (French) or IVA (Italian), for example CHE-123.456.789 MWST. This is not an EU VAT number and is not checked via VIES.
Is Swiss VAT checked through VIES?
No. Switzerland is outside EU VIES. Use the official UID Register to verify CHE numbers and VAT registration status. VIESAC creates Swiss certificates using UID Register SOAP/XML evidence rather than a VIES response.
